At the beginning of the season we hinted about the idea of putting together a day of games at West Shamokin High School, and in mid September we were excited to announce that thanks to our generous sponsors it was official, on Saturday, October 15th that day would be happening.  With a little over a week away, the day is coming together and we're now excited to share the details of this event!

GAME SCHEDULE

As mentioned in the event announcement, all age groups will get to enjoy the experience of playing on the artificial turf.  The day of games will start off at 8:30am with the 10U age group taking the field first.  Both games will kick off the inaugural event:

8:30am - Bucks/Eagles
9:45am - Wolves/Bears

At the conclusion of the second game, there will be a short intermission to setup 3 separate fields on the playing surface to transition into the 6U games for the day.  For this age group, teams have been put together in groups of 3 and will play in 15 minute rotations with each other over a 45 minute time period.  The entire field will be filled with our youngest players, and the future of our league, as the entire 6U age group takes the stage.

11:00am - all 6U teams
   Front Left - Stingrays/Jellyfish/Crocs (Seals player)
   Front Right - Orcas/Otters/Dolphins
   Rear - Narwhals/Barracudas/Sharks



Coming out of the 6U session, the field layout will transition and be cleared to allow for the first 12U match of the day, as the Thunder will take on the Tornadoes at the noon hour.  These 2 teams will compete on the full playing surface in an 11v11 match that mimics what the next step for many of these players will be as they transition into Junior High soccer

12:00pm - Tornadoes/Thunder



Once again following the 12U match, there will be a brief intermission to setup 3 separate fields, but this time slightly larger, as all 3 games in the 8U age group will be played simultaneously.  Just like before, the action will be constant, as the children compete with one another in what just might be one of the more exciting sessions of the day.  This session kicks off at 1:45pm

1:45pm - all 8U teams
   Front Left - Lions/Jaguars
   Front Right - Cougars/Tigers
   Rear - Panthers/Wildcats



And finally, for one final match on the day, the playing surface will be cleared to allow for the second 12U match, as the Hurricanes compete against the Thunder, who will be playing the doubleheader for the day.  The day's games will wrap up around 4pm for the day.

IMPORTANT NOTES

There are a couple of notes that need to be mentioned for the day:

• Unlike traditional Saturday games at Pottery Field, you will not need your chairs for the day.  Much thought and care has been put into the field layouts to ensure that all games can be viewed from the bleacher areas of the stadium.  For those who want a little more up close action, you can enjoy watching along the fence area surrounding the field, however, only players, coaches and volunteers will be allowed on the playing surface for the games, no parents will be allowed during the games.
• Players will only be allowed to have water on the field for their drinks.  No sugary drinks, or food are allowed on the playing surface, that includes Gatorade.  Outside of the playing field there is no restrictions for food or drink.
• Players do not need special footwear for the day.  The same cleats they have been wearing all year long are the same ones they can wear for this event.
• Concessions will be available all day provided by the West Shamokin Soccer Boosters.
• In addition, the boosters will also be holding a basket raffle as a fundraiser, as well as the UVSA holding 50/50 raffle.

• Game starts times must be held to a constant in order to get them all in within the allotted time.  This means that teams need to be warmed up and ready to play at the specific start time for their games.
• Warmups - To assist with staying on schedule, and still allow teams to "get a feel" for the artificial surface, the following warmup plan will be implemented with time slots and designated areas of the field:
  • 8:00am-8:25am - Eagles left side of field / Bucks right side of field
  • 9:10am-9:35am - Wolves left side endzone / Bears right side endzone
  • 10:45am or immediately following the 10U game - all 6U may take the field in their designated areas  
  • 11:20am-11:50am - Tornadoes left side endzone / Thunder right side endzone
  • 1:15pm or immediately following the 12U game - all 8U may take the field in their designated areas  
  • 2:05pm - Thunder left side endzone / Hurricanes right side endzone
• Please help ensure that no child brings sugary drinks or food onto the field, only water is allowed.
